The “Bass Light” painting by Master Artist J. Charles captures the cool dawning mist at Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse on the southern tip of Mount Desert Island in Maine’s Acadia National Park. Built in 1858, the 32 foot Bass Harbor Light towers 56 feet above the Atlantic ocean.
The red signal light atop the brick tower flashes three seconds and then pauses for one second of darkness. This historic lighthouse is currently featured on the Maine state quarter.
